Poltergeist Pussy.

This is an update to my earlier blog post regarding the fact we have a small ghost living with us. The ghost of a black and white cat. That was five months ago.

We’ve been renovating our house, so there’s been a certain amount of disruption going on, but most recently we’ve been taking a break. Last weekend I was lying in bed. The door was ajar, and I saw a shadow pass by. Thinking it was my husband, I asked him to check the backdoor was locked. He didn’t answer. After a few minutes I called out to him. Still no answer. Eventually he appeared and told me he’d been in the loo and didn’t know what I was going on about. Being used to such fleeting sightings, we both shrugged and went to sleep.

Last night poltergeist pussy upped the game.

Having already settled the dogs, we turned off the TV and put the remote on the table. We turned out the lights and left the dogs stretched out on the sofas. We went to bed before midnight. At around 1 a.m. we both wakened to the sound of the TV. It was loud. It’s never loud. My husband went to investigate. He opened the sitting room door, and felt as well as saw our little black and white ghost streak past him, and on up the hall. Both dogs were still prone on the sofas while the France 24 news anchor talked us through events across Europe. The remote was still on the table.

I know that a remote close-by can affect a TV. This hasn’t ever happened, but it could. I know a dog can step on a remote, and change the channel, or the volume. This has happened, when the TV was already on, and the remote lying on the sofa.

Here's the thing.

This is FireTV, so not only do you need to turn the TV on, but you also then have to select a profile (there are 2 on ours, and only mine has the France24 app installed). Then you have to scroll down through three levels of options to find the recently used apps. However, I now watch France24 through Freesat… less steps to take in order to get it running. So the France24 app is way along at the far end of a row featuring things like BBC, ITVX, Ch4, 5… you get the picture. Clicks to the right x 9 just to reach the France24 app. Another click to open the app, a scroll down and a click onto the main news window, and a final click to open that.

Neither of our dogs can even reach the table in order to get at the remote buttons.
